The Elderly Challenge

1.Explain in your own words, the four key recommendations of the report.

The four key recommendations are make all HDB precincts barrier-free, all new public buses should be elder-friendly, help seniors to monetize their housing assets and provide different housing options.

To make all HDB precincts barrier-free will be to make elevators everywhere in Singapore thus allowing elderly who are handicapped to be able to go anywhere because the elevators allow the handicapped to go to anywhere up and down without using the stairs which is hard for them to go down and up.

To allow all the new buses to be elder-friendly allow the elderly to have the buses not having a step so it helps to not having to push the wheelchair up two steps instead of one and letting the buses to be wheelchair accessible could help for the elderly in wheelchair to be able to let them get anywhere in Singapore easily.

To help seniors to monetize their housing assets allows the elderly to have an expenditure even in an old age and have houses to live in.

To provide different housing options for the elderly allows the elderly to have a house that adapts to the elderly
needs, helping them to cope with their daily life.

2.State one way that the CAI report is recommending to make our public housing more elderly-friendly.

The CAI report recommended having provide different housing options allowing the elderly lives to be more easier and thus allowing them to adapt more easily.

3. State two ways on how we can ensure that the quality of elderly care here in Singapore is affordable

We could provide houses for the elderly in order for them to have housing in case they don't have money. I also think that we could donate whatever we can donate so they can have enough food and clothing.

4. After reading the CAI report, what do you think are the three things that you can do, as an SST student, to help
overcome these elderly challenges

I feel that I can help them by doing community service thus helping the elderly get a better life and be happy. I feel that we can also donate food, clothing and money in order to improve their lives. Lastly, I feel that we could organize activities for them.
