Elderly Challenge - Observation 2

Today, I am going to talk about what the elderly faced when their going to sleep, before, during and when they wake up. Before sleeping, They usually would brush their teeth or dentures and thus have to go into the bathroom which the floor should be wet and thus slippery causing the elderly to slip easily and if they fall, they might injure themselves. The possible solutions are to either bring the teeth-cleaning equipments to a place where it won't be slippery and there is a tap there, or they have to hire a maid. Logically, there is no place with a tap which the floor is not slippery except for the kitchen, which may be oily because of cooking which would result in injuries too, so hiring a maid is the only option.

The elderly also have to get which might be a problem if the elderly have eye problems or handicapped. They would have to try very hard to get onto the bed if they are handicapped and if they have eye problems, it would be hard for them to find where is the bed. For the handicapped, I feel that they could be a bed with shorter legs so it would be easier for the elderly to get onto the bed to rest. For the elderly with eye problems, we could put railings around the room, thus allowing the elderly to find their way to the bed.

During sleeping, they might fall out of their bed because they might roll and fall which causes injuries so my idea is to buy a bed like the bed the baby sleeps on. It allows the elderly to flip and flop and the elderly not to fall out of the bed and will not injure themselves.

When waking up, the elderly might again have the same problems as what they have before sleeping. The only difference between them is that the handicapped, who are wheelchair-bound, need to get their wheelchair which is not easy because they cannot walk thus they need a caretaker to help them.

I feel that helping the elderly is very important and we should not neglect them because of our work or our studies because they are as important as us and are also apart of our society.
